Ted Panken has written over 500 album liner notes, and pays homage to Dan's skills as a writer and exuberant jazz lover. Ted recollects his first encounters with Dan's liner notes from Prestige and Onyx historical reissue albums, reads an excerpt from Dan's book "Living With Jazz" on the Kansas City Seven, and remembers his first encounters with Dan, Vincent Pelote, and Ed Berger at the Rutgers Institute of Jazz Studies, while doing research, reading oral histories, and going through the vast archives at IJS.

Michael Cuscuna is an American jazz record producer and writer. He is a leading discographer of Blue Note Records. He has 3 Grammys and attributes his writing skills to working with Dan Morgenstern. In the 1960's he contributed articles to DownBeat magazine, when Dan was editor.
